Pliny Earle Chase was born 18 August 1820 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a scientist, mathematician and educator who was graduated from Harvard in 1839 and then taught in Philadelphia. In 1871 he became a member of the faculty of Haverford College. He died 17 December 1886 in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
