Charles Guilford Burnham was born 6 October 1803 in Dunbarton, New Hampshire. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and taught in New Jersey before becoming Principal of the Pembroke Academy in Pembroke, New Hampshire and then Phillips Academy in Danville, Vermont. He died 29 June 1866 in Montgomery, Alabama.
